How was this calculated?

Total miles = loaded + deadhead + after-delivery miles. Fuel = total miles ÷ MPG × fuel price. Non-fuel cost = total miles × entered non-fuel cost per mile. Dispatch fee = gross pay × dispatch percentage. Profit before tax reserve = pay minus fuel, non-fuel, dispatch and other costs. Tax reserve applies only to positive estimated profit and is not a tax calculation. Break-even rate = estimated trip costs ÷ total miles. Empty-mile share includes deadhead and after-delivery empty miles. Actual results depend on your equipment, route and costs.

Why deadhead matters

Empty miles still consume fuel, tires, maintenance and time. A load that looks profitable on loaded miles alone may earn much less when you include the drive to pickup and the miles after delivery.
